Five-year-old Cut N Run ended a sequence of three second placings and gave a sample of his ability when he set the pace and scored a convincing victory in the 2130m Sunday Times Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

The New Zealand-bred gelding by Bettors Delight is certainly bred to succeed. He is out of the American Ideal mare Idolise, who won once from 13 starts before being retired to the breeding barn.

Cut N Run’s elder full-sister Braeview Kelly has amassed $434,430 in prizemoney from 18 wins and 15 placings from 58 starts. She won at seven of her 35 New Zealand starts and her 23 Australian starts have resulted in eleven wins and seven placings.

Cut N Run’s younger half-brother Ohoka Connor has impressed in winning at eight of his 12 starts for earnings of $104,690. His wins include the Group 2 Southern Supremacy Stakes over 2700m at Invercargill in April last year.

Cut N Run raced nine times in New Zealand as a two-year-old for two wins and three placings, and then had 24 starts in New South Wales for three wins and 11 placings. His 14 WA starts have produced three wins and five seconds, taking his career record to 47 starts for eight wins, 19 placings and $79,487.

“He ran good time tonight,” said trainer-driver Jocelyn Young after Cut N Run had rated 1.57.5, with final 400m sections of 28.4sec. and 28.5sec.

“He is very lazy in front, but if the outside horse (Lady Prima Donna) had got close he would have fought on.”
