Pinny Tiger gave further proof that he is one of WA’s best pacers when he strolled to an effortless victory in the $23,000 HTA Rent A Gen Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Trainer and part-owner Michael Brennan was delighted with the ease in which the Victorian-bred Pinny Tiger, the $1.90 second fancy, dashed straight to the front from the No. 6 barrier and then was untroubled to beat the $1.80 favourite Franco Ecuador.

“He won with the ear plugs in, and he is now heading towards the Pinjarra Cup on Monday week,” said Brennan.

This was Pinny Tiger’s third appearance after a spell, and Brennan said that it was most pleasing that the six-year-old has had three reasonably soft runs, compared with much harder runs during his two previous preparations.

Though Pinny Tiger is noted for his sparkling speed, Brennan said that he would be suited over the 2692m of the Pinjarra Cup.

Franco Ecuador, attempting his fifth win in a row  after most impressive victories at his first two runs after a 23-month absence,  began from the No. 1 barrier and was beaten for speed by Pinny Tiger, who was able to coast through the lead time in 37.5sec. and the opening quarters of 31.1sec. and 29.9sec. before sprinting over the final 800m in 55.2sec. He rated 1.56.1 over the 2130m and took his record to 44 starts for 16 wins, 11 placings and $250,011.
