Friday night’s meeting at Gloucester Park features the running of the Get Well Ernie Manning The Binshaw Pace (2130m).
The $50,000 race has attracted a classy field of pacers, but most punters will be with the Gary Hall Sr-trained Your So Fine after the Always B Miki entire drew ideally in gate two.
Reined by champion reinsman Gary Hall Jr, the four-year-old horse will be shooting for his seventh win in a row and he’s expected to be sent out a red-hot favourite.
However, members of the WA Trotting Media Guild have looked elsewhere when assessing the 10-event card for their best bets.
TABradio’s Matt Young, Guild president Wayne Currall and award-winning journalist Ken Casellas have all settled on the Michael George-trained Kimble as their best for the evening.
“Kimble finds the perfect race to spear to the front and good luck catching him from there,” Young said. “Should lead and win.”
And Currall agrees.
“Friday night looks like being a very profitable evening for Junior,” Currall said. “He has a number of top drives and one of his best for the night is Kimble. The horse has been quite unlucky of late and gets his chance to break back into the winners’ circle here from a low draw. Looks a great banker for the early quaddie and for all-ups.”
Casellas makes it a clean sweep.
“Kimble was hopelessly blocked for a clear run in the final stages when a most unlucky sixth behind Arma Xfactor last Friday week,” Casellas said. “And a week before that he was held up until very late when he rattled home, out three wide, to finish third behind Whatabro. I’m predicting that Kimble is due for a change of fortune, and I’m making him my best bet this week to return to the winning list when he starts from barrier two in race three.”
Longshot maestro Pat Harding is keen on Five Bangles, from the in-form stables of Kevin Keys.
“Looks like Gary Hall Sr and Gary Hall Jr could have a very profitable night this week at GP,” Harding said. “My best bet comes up in race two with No. 1 Five Bangles. She has been very consistent in three runs from a spell and with the ideal barrier should record another win.”
VALUE BETS
MATT: Bee Jays Boy could be value as he drops in grade. Needs some confidence back and this is a suitable race.
WAYNE: Junior looks like having a big night and I’m backing him to land my five-leg multi. Kimble into Prince Of Pleasure into Your So Fine into Mr Fantastic and bringing it home with the unbeaten superstar Never Ending. What could go wrong? Go you good things.
KEN: For value, I am predicting that Henrik Larsson, who has been unplaced at his past seven starts, will appreciate a drop in class in race six in which he is favourably drawn at barrier two on the back line.
PAT: My double comes up in race five with No. 4 Watching Our Coin. Had a couple of good wins earlier in the year and is due for a change of luck.
